Guns N’ Roses – Civil War ガンズ・アンド・ローゼズ – シヴィル・ウォー

アメリカのロックバンド ガンズ・アンド・ローゼズ の曲で、もともとはルーマニアの孤児救済のためのコンピレーションアルバム「Nobody’s Child」(1990年)に提供された曲です。

その後、バンドの3rdアルバム「Use Your Illusion II」(1991年)に収録されました。

冒頭のセリフは映画「Cool Hand Luke」(1967年。邦題は「暴力脱獄」)で、脱獄に失敗した主人公(ポール・ニューマン)に向かって、刑務所長が吐き捨てるように言ったセリフの引用です（アメリカでは有名なセリフとなったそうです）。

歌詞の意味と解釈

タイトル「 シヴィル・ウォー 」は、直訳すると"市民の戦争“となりますが、一般的には"内戦“、"内乱“と訳されます。

ここでは、シヴィル・ウォーの意味を"内戦"に限定せず、「一般市民の為と称して行われる戦争」と広く解釈して訳しました。
