The local interconnect network (LIN) transmits/receives signals to/from the alternator. If the powertrain control module (PCM) receives incorrect information from the alternator, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type Continuous 1.5 seconds or more One drive cycle, MIL off Enable Conditions Elapsed time after the vehicle is turned to the ON mode 12 volt battery voltage [Battery]* *: For at least 5 seconds [ ]: HDS Parameter Malfunction Threshold Any of the conditions is met for at least 1.5 seconds: Checksum error There is a mismatch in the checksum. Frame error There is a deviation in the LIN frame. Header timeout error There is a fault in the LIN line caused by problems with the physical layer connection. Message timeout error The slave node is unable to respond as an acknowledgment to the header frame from the master node. Overrun errorLIN frame has been overwritten in the receive buffer by another frame before the previous frame was read.
Possible CauseNOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
Alternator LIN line open Alternator LIN line short to ground Alternator failure PCM internal circuit failure Diagnosis Details Conditions for setting the DTCWhen a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTCThe Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
