How to Make Easy Paper Flowers for Kids (Free Paper Rose Template) is a post from contributing writer Rob @ Art for Kids Hub

Do you remember when you were a kid and kept pencil shavings because they looked like flowers? I even admit to thinking they looked cool. This 3D paper flowers art project is not only inspired from those little shavings, it’s also just as easy as sharpening a pencil.

I did this together with my little kids (3 and 7 years old) and they loved it! When we got done they were shocked that it actually looked like a rose.

Materials Needed for 3D Paper Flowers Project
  • Printed paper rose template on the color of your choice (free download farther down in this post)
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Scissors

Notes on Paper Color Choice Plus a Fun Science Activity Idea:

You can definitely give this project a rose look by picking red paper. However, you can also use a variety of colors for the look of spring flowers.

If you don’t have colored paper, you can print out the template on white paper and invite your child to color the flower before cutting it out.

Allowing the children to color in their own flower might be a fun activity when doing a flower or plant unit study or a nature study. Ask them to uniquely color their flower and give it a whole new species name. Ask them to share details about this new flower they have created.

Step By Step Instructions on How to Make Easy Paper Flowers

1. Download and print the paper rose template onto red paper or choose another color for other types of 3D paper flowers (or just other colors of roses).

2. With scissors cut out one of the spirals.

3. Roll the spiral, beginning from the outside.

4. Roll the entire spiral until you get to the center. The center of the spiral will act as the bottom of the rose.

5. Push the green pipe cleaner into the center of the rose, and through the dotted X. You may need to poke a hole with the scissors if the paper is too thick. (This is probably a job for an adult.)

If it does, indeed, become an adult job or if you are doing this with a large number of small children, you might consider using a paper piercing tool like this. (This definitely makes it an adult job!)

6. Finish pulling the pipe cleaner through the rose, leaving enough to hold the spiral paper in place.

That’s it! You have learned how to make easy paper flowers.

Now you can either be done here or make a whole bouquet of 3D paper flowers to give as a Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day gift or just for a fun paper rose decoration in the middle of your table.

See, I told you this was simple! My favorite part about this project is that no glue is needed.
