While discussing his new production, The Osmonds: A New Musical, Jay was visibly overwhelmed as he described the resilience and unity that carried the family through that dark period.
When the hosts asked about the infamous decision portrayed in the musical, Jay paused, careful not to reveal too much. “I don’t want to spoil it,” he said. “In the show, you could hear a pin drop during that scene. It was the lowest point we ever faced professionally, but also the moment that proved just how strong we were as a family.” Fighting back tears, he continued, “It still makes me emotional… the love, the forgiveness, and the bond between us is what kept us going.”
Jay went on to emphasize that The Osmonds: A New Musical is far more than a tribute performance or a nostalgic retelling. It is a deeply personal narrative of the Osmonds’ journey, told through his eyes. “The musical really takes audiences on a ride,” he said. “It covers the highs, the lows, the discipline, the struggles, and the triumphs. There’s so much people don’t know.”
He also expressed how moved he’s been by the reaction from theatergoers. “People laugh in the right places, cry in the right places. I love stepping out during intermission and hearing them say, ‘You took me back to being a teenager again.’”
The show not only features the family’s most iconic songs but also exposes meaningful stories hidden behind the spotlight. Jay proudly added, “My brother Donny told me, ‘I don’t just believe in the show, Jay—I believe in you.’ That meant the world to me.”
