Origami Christmas Tree

This Christmas Tree is the latest origami model by Francesco Guarnieri which he generously shared just a few days ago!

It’s folded from 6 octagons of different sizes that you cut out of squares after some pre-creasing. Follow the link below for the Crease Pattern.

No cutting or gluing required to make the units but you may want to add a dab of glue between them for more stability (though I didn’t). Great design to make and decorate your home or office for the Holiday Season!

I would like to try this with a sixth grade integrated arts class–some of whom are very gifted artistically–but the directions need to be foolproof–and they need to be able to follow the steps without me repeating them over and over again–and having to end up doing the work for the ones who cant . I would dearly love if you could send me 5 versions of your crease pattern in the EXACT sizes and with the exact cut lines marked. I know this is is a lot to ask but it would make my life far less difficult.

Hey, I am having some problems collapsing the crease pattern, owing to the fact that the example, while beautiful, is also colored on both sides, does anyone have a collapse example in single sided paper? Help? I have all the pieces cut and creased, but this is killing me!

Hi Randrews – The first 6 pics of my “collapsing tutorial” show the colored side of the paper in case of one-sided paper. Before collapsing place your precreased piece colored side up and check with the first step if all creases that supposed to be mountains are mountains, and all valleys are valleys. Also note that the biggest picture in Francesco’s Crease Pattern shows the white side of the paper, and steps 2-5 of the CP show the colored side.

I believe Sara taught another model (but by the same designer). There is no detailed step-by-step tutorial for this one, as far as I know, but you can fold it from this crease pattern – cut an octagon and pre-crease all mountains and valleys according to the pattern and then collapse units as shown in the post.

Thanks so much for your help. I enjoyed folding this model and planning to fold the other versions. I did not use glue, but instead, each time i was folding a smaller unit, i was using paper clips to hold the previous folded ones together. i folded the units from flowery pattern cami. I rally love the model

Hi! I’d really like to make these for our office Christmas party, but I’m finding the ‘quick guide’ impossible to follow, as I have no idea which bits are being folded where. Do you know if anyone has come up with a step-by-step guide or a video tutorial?

Hi Alex! I think I saw Francesco mentioning somewhere that there was a tutorial, which he neither liked, nor gave permission to make. But you can try to find it though! The “quick guide” is only showing how to collapse units after pre-creasing. You have to work out the crease pattern first.
